The Inn On Capelin Bay Bed & Breakfast In Newfoundland
Perhaps one of the most memorable times of our 🍁 Cross Canada travels, was a wonderful stay at the Inn On Capelin Bay Bed & Breakfast.
Situated in the Province of Newfoundland and just 1 hours drive south from the City of St. John’s, is the tiny and very picturesque – Calvert Bay.
A beautiful 🛌 Bed & Breakfast on the Southern Shores of Newfoundland.
Inn On Capelin Bay B&B – Location
The Inn is located along the scenic southern shore of Newfoundland and an easy one hours drive from the main city of St. John’s.
Take Southern Shore Highway/NL-10 S. Watch for signs for Bay Bulls/Witless Bay and continue south.
I had planned on spending a couple of days visiting communities along the southern shore, when scheduling our travels in Newfoundland and boy were we happy we did!
From Bay Bulls, historic Ferryland to Cape Race and Trepassey, this part of Newfoundland should not be missed!
There’s beautiful coastline, outlining small 🎣 fishing communities and much more to discover.
Calvert Bay – Formerly Known As Capelin Bay
It appears the name Capelin was changed back in 1922 to Calvert Bay, to satisfy the 📮 postal service.
At the time, there were a few other communities with a similar name. Capelin is named after a common 🐟 fish that was caught by early settlers.
This area is also in the heart of the famous ☘ Irish Loop.
The Inn’s owners decided to name there 🛌 B&B after the original name of – Capelin.
The Inn on Capelin Bay was built in 2014, on a slight hill on the north side of Calvert Bay.
Your host and owner Kevin, a long time resident of the community, has skillfully refurbished his family’s original homestead to a now beautiful 🛌 Bed & Breakfast.
A Look At Our Stay At The Inn – 2nd Floor Bedroom
The home has a gorgeous view overlooking Calvert Bay and the Lighthouse situated on the point in the distance.
The setting is picture perfect!
There are 2 guest rooms on the 2nd floor, both with a private bath. There is a 3rd bedroom on the main floor that may be rented at specific times as well throughout the year.
All the rooms are masterfully decorated with unique individually crafted additions, making each room very special.
Each room on the second floor is very private, divided by the main staircase. Guest rooms have a full private bath and a small balcony overlooking the Bay.
Rooms are complete with all the amenities one would expect in a deluxe B&B and more.
All guestrooms are tastefully decorated and absolutely immaculate. You couldn’t ask for anything more!
Main Floor Third Bedroom
This bedroom can be made available at certain times when needed. A smaller room but again, tastefully decorated and spotless.
Attached Cottage Style Guest Room
Kevin has also done an amazing job constructing an attached cottage style guest room off the main deck of the house.
His skills as a quality craftsman are evident when you see the special touches and attention to detail he has done with this addition.
This Bed & Breakfast without a doubt is one of the most beautiful we have ever stayed at anywhere in our travels.
Kevin is a jack of all trades and boy, wait until you see what he prepares for breakfast!
He cooks Texas style and you better be hungry! 🙂
Breakfast At The Inn On Capelin Bay
Kevin serves up a mean breakfast, so make sure you arrive to the table ready to enjoy a full breakfast!
Below is just a sample of what he prepares for you each morning during your stay.
There’s fresh coffee, tea and juice to start off your day. Kevin then serves fresh fruit yogurt as a starter.
Then, there’s the incredible breakfast that follows. He prepares a full heaping plate filled with eggs, sausage, bacon, beans, potatoes and more!
You’re definitely not going to leave his home to start your day hungry.
Dinner Menu And Catering At The Inn
We had a wonderful two night stay at the Inn while touring a portion of the southern coast of the Province. Kevin will even prepare dinner and special catering upon request for his guests.
He was gracious enough to invite my wife and I for dinner one night with friends during our 2 night stay.
Check out just a small sample of what you can expect when ordering dinner at the Inn.
Before starting your meal, you are invited to enjoy a 🍹 cocktail from the bar, along with wine with your dinner.
Kevin started our wonderful meal off with a delicious shrimp & cheese appetizer.
A beautifully prepared and presented full course dinner follows!
Homemade dessert topped with ice cream, served with coffee or tea. A perfect and delicious home cooked meal!
It is well worth having a meal prepared for you, depending on your arrival to the area. Restaurants are scarce in the community for meals.
We had a wonderful 2 night stay and thoroughly enjoyed our days spent on Newfoundland’s southern coast.
Kevin is an outstanding host and will do all he can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
Within minutes of the Inn you’ll find a popular dinner theatre, hiking trails, whale/puffin watching tours, bird sanctuaries, provincial parks, waterfalls and of course, the famous Lighthouse Picnics.
You simply must include a picnic at the Lighthouse during your visit.
Kevin can make a reservation for you during your stay, which is highly recommended. It gets very busy, but definitely worth taking in during your stay.
The Inn is also located right next door to – Sullivan’s Song House. A one of a kind and very popular kitchen musical experience!
